Lightning Girls Soccer Full Story

Name: Date: Lindsey Schoenecker 09/26/11

Topic: Eastview Girls Soccer

Angle:
Players on the team

Script IN (for anchor):
Many students around Eastview High School have been talking about the undefeated Lightning girls soccer team. Lindsey got the inside scoop on the team to see what they were all about.

Stand up:
Thank you, anchor. Nothing can seem to get in the way of the girls Lightning soccer team. With zero losses, the question is “what keeps this team going?”

1st Interview Abby Lee:
The reason I love playing soccer for Eastview is because I love being a part of the team. We have pasta dinners at someone’s house the night before we play which makes a good bonding experience for the whole team. The dinners are kind of a reward for all of our hard work that we do during practice.

Segue:
The girls’ hard work in practice has paid off resulting in an amazing record of 7-4-0.

2nd Interview Courtney Hopps:
My favorite game was against Lakeville North. Last year, it was the only game we lost, but this year everyone on the team was super pumped for it. We ended up winning 2-1 because we didn’t quit fighting until the end.

Segue:
Fighting until the end is only one of the many things that this soccer team does.

3rd Interview Haley Schoenecker:
Everyone on the team is really good about encouraging each other and talking on the field. We support each other whether someone does something good or bad. I have gotten to know everyone on the team and we are all very close this season.

Close:
It is clear that these girls have put their hearts and souls into the game. Together, they are finishing off the season with positive minds and they are determined to win.

Reporting for the Flash, I’m Lindsey.
Script OUT (for anchor):
Thanks, Lindsey. I can’t wait to see how the girls do at their next game against the Apple Valley Eagles tomorrow night.

Interview #3

Eastview Girls Soccer
Haley Schoenecker

1. What made you decide to play soccer for Eastview? I like soccer and I've played it my whole life. Plus, I dont do a different sport in the fall so I decided to try out.
2. So far, what has been your favorite game this season? Why? The game against Rooseville was my favorite game this season so far because we won 4-0. It was fun because it was our first game of the season and we were all excited to be playing.
3. What is your favorite memory of the season so far? What made it so memorable? We were playing a game and it was 0-0. It wasn't looking like we were going to win. In the second half we scored two goals right in a row and the team got super pumped and we were all ready to go. We ended up winning that game and going to DQ after.
4. What do you do to contribute to the team as a whole? I make good passes to teammates which gives them the opportunity to score. On the field, I talk a lot and if someone does something good I always tell them great job and encourage them. I think our whole team does a good job of that.
5. What are you going to do the same/differently next year if you play soccer again? Next year, I hope we do more team bonding. I want to have more team sleepovers and hang out as a team as much as possible so that we get very close.

Interview #2

Eastview Girls Soccer
Courtney Hopps

1. Why did you decide to play soccer for Eastview? I've played soccer ever since kindergarten. I have a ton of friends on the team so that's why I like it a lot.
2. What has been your favorite game so far this season? Why? My favorite game so far was probably the Lakeville North game. Last year it was the only game we lost but this year we won because we fought super hard and everybody was pumped to win.
3. Is there anything your team does to show spirit before games? Before games, we have pasta dinners. As a team, we talk about what we are going to do in the game and visualize how the game is going to be played out. We also have plays that we make up during practice so it's fun to try those out in games.
4. What do you contribute to the team to make it better as a whole? Since I'm a captain, I get to do the coin toss before every game and I also help get the girls going and excited about the game before we go out on the field.
5. Do you have a favorite memory of the season so far? In general, my favorite memory is getting to know all girls on the team and our team is really close this year which makes playing soccer so much more fun!

Interview #1

Girls Eastview Soccer
Abby Lee

1. Being a captain has many responsibilities. I have to bring ice to each game, do the coin toss in the middle to see who kicks off first and, I lead warm-ups before each practice and games.
2. We don't do very much for team bonding besides pasta dinners the night before each game. Sometimes a few of us go out to eat after practice to Panera. In a few weeks we will be having a team sleepover.
3. My favorite game this season was the home game against Lakeville North. It was such a close game but we ended up fighting out our way to a win with a score of 2-1. I scored a goal!
4. To get better, during practice we do a lot of conditioning. We do 120's which is a drill that you sprint down the field and jog back in a certain amount of time. Also, we do a lot of killers at the end of practice. For fun, we play world cup which is when you and a partner have to say your country name before you score a goal and the last team to score doesn't move on to the next round.
5. I like playing soccer because I love the girls. I love being a part of a team and I love the sport because I've been playing it for so long.

Team record: 7-4-0
Practice every day from 2:45-4:45 on the Eastview soccer fields

Teens and Texting

Young adults, 18-24 year olds, are said to be "professional texters". In 2000, 14 million texts were sent out monthly. Today, 188 billion texts are sent out. Experts are afraid for the younger generation because of the social skills they are beginning to lack. For example, a kid apologizes to another kid for something he did earlier that day through text message. He doesn't have to experience the awkwardness of the situation and he doesn't have the skills to apologize in person.

Ruby Bridges

Ruby Bridges was born in the 1950's and she was known for being the first African American girl to attend William Frantz School. Many desegragation laws had just passed in Lousianna and Ruby was only one of six other African Americans to pass a test which allowed them into White schools. Ruby was disliked by many because of the color of her skin. Parent's of the white kids took their kids out of class and for over a year it was only Ruby and her teacher, Mrs. Henry. Ruby wasn't allowed to leave the classroom unless she needed to use the bathroom; in that case, she was escorted by a fedral marshal. Finally, years later, white students began attending the class that Ruby was in and now Ruby teaches a class full of kids.

Vikings Dissapoint Many

Fans were completely silent except for the occasional "boo" that could be heard after the game. The Vikings were up 17 to 0 against Tampa Bay in the first half, but sadly lost everything in the second half. With the ending score being 20-24 Tampa Bay, fans are getting frustrated with the purple and yellow team. The players are disappointed in themselves and they hope to have good games to improve their 0-2 record.

Newsmap

In the article "Charlie Sheen, I would have fired myself too", it talks about how Charlie isn't denying any of the mistakes he made over the past several months. He said that he was out of control and that he would have fired himself but maybe not to the extent that Warner Bros did.

My reaction to this article is that now that Charlie has been fired and lost his show, Two and a Half Men, he will straighten his life out again. I hope that he can get back into the show and stay clean.

Newsworthiness criteria:
Significance- Important/well known person (Charlie Sheen)
Timeliness- This interview didn't happen two months ago
Prominence- Something happened to a well know person (Charlie Sheen)

Jonesboro Shooting

The Jonesboro shooting took place in Arkansas by two young boys at Westside Middle School. Four students and one teacher were killed; ten other students were injured. One shooter was 11 years-old and the other was 13 years-old. There was evidence found that the shooters were killing people with guns in the name of Satan because they had drawings of Satan on their notebooks and hands, as well as the gang symbols that involved Satan. Mitchell Johnson, the older boy, said, "If I don't get you, others will."

Dead baby found in Mississippi River

In the article "4 statues clues in search for dead baby's mom", a two-day-old baby was found dead and floating in the Mississippi River. The baby was wrapped in a green shirt, two plastic bags and put inside a cream colored tote bag. Also in the bag were four angel statues, about four inches tall each, and a piece of jewelry. Police do not know who the mother of the baby is and are looking for any evidence that they can find. In Minnesota, we have a safe haven law that allows any mother to walk into a emergency room or hospital and give up her newborn child without any legal consequences.

Google+ Games

Google+, somewhat like facebook, is beginning a new "era", so to speak, by adding a new gaming feature. The game "FarmVille" is a huge hit on facebook and they have made a large amount of money off of it because of all of the people who enjoy playing this game. Google+ thinks that the games will be good for people if they need a short break or have a little extra time. They are offering the creater of the game to take 95 percent of the profits and Google+ will only take 5 percent. Google+ is doing this because they want people to invest in the gaming industry.

9/11 World Trade Center Terrorist Attack

Finally, where the World Trade Center used to stand, there is now a memorial plaza in it's place. The memorial consists of two reflecting pools with the engraved names of the 3,000 people who lost their lives that horrible day. Hundreds of Oak trees surround and fill this eight-acre memorial site. It is free to get in, but visitors must have a ticket because security is very strict at this site. Later on in the year, an underground museum will be built for further remembrance of the terrorist attacks of the World Trade Centers.

In the article "Second death in Minnesota tied to synthetic drugs", Alex Winterhalter, a 22 year old man shot and killed himself while using synthetic marijuana. He had been smoking pot for five years and a friend told police that Alex thought that synthetic pot was legal and that's why he started smoking it all the time. The night of Alex Winterhalter's death, he had been drinking at the bar and was well over the legal driving limit. He had also been smoking synthetic marijuana that same night. Police say that Alex shot himself because of an "altered state of mind due to chemicals".

Shortened Partner Interview

Emily Muckler is a graduating senior this year at Eastview High School. She enjoys swimming in the fall and snowboarding in the winter. Because she is double jointed in her shoulders, she is especially good at these challenging sports.

Swimming and snowboarding may seem like challenging sports, but because Emily is double jointed in her shoulders, she has natural talent for both of these.

Double sports, Double jointed, Double the talent

KSTP Article

In the article "Savage Girl Wakes Up to Find A Stranger in Her Bedroom", a seven year old girl woke up to no screen on her bedroom window and saw someone in her room. The person did not hurt her or her younger brother who was sleeping in the room as well. A similar situation happened earlier in the week in the same apartment complex so police are looking for any possible suspects.

Partner Story

Emily Muckler is a senior at Eastview this year. She enjoys a variety of activities including snowboarding and swimming. She snowboards at Afton, Welsh Village and Buck Hill. She swims on the school's girls swim team. She loves swimming so much that she lifeguards at Cascade Bay in the summer time. One time, during swim practice, the team was doing their normal stretches and Emily found out that she could stretch her arm all the way behind her back which means that she is double jointed in her shoulders. After her two car accidents, she has had bad back problems but going to the chiropractor has helped. Although this has affected her swimming, she is still able to contribute to the team in a big way.
